세력전을 주관하는 제국 인사, 베올과 글램의 작업과정입니다. 베올은 적색 세력을 대표하는 노련한 노병이며 글램은 풋내기 신참입니다. 노병의 설정이 마음에 들어 베올을 먼저 작업했습니다.
This is a tutorial of two illustrations of Veol Callow and Glam Ringwood, which are representative of two old empires each. Veol is a highly experienced veteran of the Red Knight, and Glam is a rookie of the Blue Knight. What I liked is the concept of veteran, so I started with a illustration of Veol.

체형과 동세를 잡았습니다. 키는 상당히 큰 편이며, 각 세력의 문장을 잘 보여주기 위해 방패를 들게 했습니다. 오래 서있어야 하는 인물이라 편안하게 서있는 모습으로 그렸습니다.

앞서 잡은 밑그림을 바탕으로 선을 정리했습니다. 선을 어떻게 깔끔하게 정리하는지 묻는 분들이 종종 계신데, 별다른 방법은 없으니 오랜 시간 인내심을 가지고 꼼꼼하게 그리면 됩니다. 타블렛에 익숙치 않으면 손그림에 비해 더 비뚤거리기 쉬운데 이는 숙련도 문제이므로 연습이 필요합니다. 이번 그림은 상반신만 선을 정리하여 그리 오랜 시간이 소요되지 않았지만, 전신의 경우 보통 업무시간 기준으로 하루 반 이상 걸립니다.

훈장과 방패와 같은 인공물은 투시가 조금만 틀어져도 어색해 보이므로 기준선을 잘 그려야 합니다. 기준선에 맞춰 세세한 형태를 그리면 어렵지 않게 그릴 수 있습니다.

기본적인 배색을 완료한 상태입니다. 던파 일러스트 대부분이 그렇듯이 일정이 촉박하여 급하게 작업했기 때문에 그리면서 동시에 디자인을 했습니다. 제국의 성격에 맞춰 독일 군복과 중세 기사의 느낌을 섞었습니다.

다른 그림과 마찬가지로, 단색으로 외곽을 모두 정리한 뒤에 채색을 시작했습니다. 이 과정에서 각 색상의 배치에 맞는 레이어 구조를 정리하고, 채색 중에 외곽을 벗어나지 않도록 각각 Lock transparent pixels 속성을 적용시키면 이후의 작업이 굉장히 편해집니다. 해당 속성은 위 그림에 붉은 색으로 표시된 아이콘을 누르면 적용됩니다.

장신구를 제외한 옷과 망토, 얼굴, 머리카락 등의 명암 묘사를 끝낸 모습입니다. 얼굴은 숙인 상태이기 때문에 대부분 그늘에 가려졌습니다. 노련한 노병다운 강인한 인상을 주기 위해서 볼의 군살을 빼고 흉터를 여럿 넣었습니다. 장갑은 옷이나 망토와 달리 가죽이기 때문에 그에 맞는 질감으로 표현했습니다.

In order to make a tough impression as a veteran, I emphasized the facial bone structure and added few scars on face. Gloves are made of leather unlike cloth and cloak, so it was depicted appropriate texture.

기타 장신구를 모두 그리고 정리를 끝냈습니다. 금속 부분은 특별히 거 반짝이게 보이도록 그리고, 머리카락과 같이 Screen 레이어를 활용하여 빛이 번진 효과를 추가했습니다.

방패를 마저 그린 뒤에 완성했습니다. 글램은 베올의 옆에 똑같은 모습으로 서있는 녀석이기 때문에, 베올의 일러스트를 조금 수정하여 그렸습니다.

베올과 달리 신참이라 주렁주렁 달려있던 훈장을 모두 없앴습니다. 성격 역시 진중한 베올 달리 거칠고 경솔하니 이를 표정에 드러내달라는 기획자의 주문을 받아 최대한 방향에 맞춰 표현했습니다.

베올의 맞은편에서 마주보고 서있는 녀석이라 좌우를 반전시켜 완성했습니다. 글램은 표정이 꽤 다양한 편이라 신경을 많이 썼습니다. 표정도 정리해서 올립니다.
